Teaching Artists Program

The LSO’s Teaching Artists Program is made possible by generous funding from the Helen Jones Foundation.

The innovative Teaching Artists Program provides weekly music-integrated lessons to local second-grade students on core subjects from the CSCOPE curriculum including science, English language arts and social studies. Texas Tech University music education students are individually selected and trained before placement in participating schools. Professional music educators also serve as teaching artists. Teaching artists develop imaginative lessons that engage the multiple intelligences and enhance what students are already learning in the classroom.

In the 2012-2013 school year, LSO teaching artists worked in thirteen Lubbock Independent School District second-grade classrooms and reached approximately 800 students. Plans are underway to expand the program to all LISD elementary schools.
